Literary Analysis. Due by Day 7. For this Week Three assignment, you are required to complete a literary analysis. You may choose a poem, short story, or play (a list of suggested short story titles is included below) and provide an analysis of the language used. Your focus will be on how the author manipulates or specializes their use of language to convey a particular social message, so be sure to identify that message early in your analysis. Your focus will be on the use of at least two of the following topics as they relate to linguisitics: Genre, Register, Modality, and Participation Framework, Reference, Deixis, and Stance. Bring in research to support your assertions and remember to contextualize your chosen piece of writing. There may be a historical context to the selected work of fiction, which might also be relevant to the language use. 
Your introduction needs to include a clear thesis that introduces the chosen story, poem, or play, the social message identified in the chosen literature, and the linguistic topic(s) to be used in the analysis. The analysis needs to clearly show how the author manipulates specific language using linguistic topics from the chapters and examples from the literature are connected clearly to ‘real life’ social issues/situations (e.g. gender differences, social hierarchies, persuasion, etc.).
